Taking the tram down to the beach because we're lazy.
Less than couple of weeks ago (although it feels like a lifetime ago now) my family and I went to Egypt, we stayed at the Four Seasons Sharm El Sheikh. Now I'm not going to go into specific details on the cost but just to make you aware that you can get some really good deals if you like to haggle (as my husband does). We went the week before half term and the week during. We went on a Bed and Breakfast basis and booked the Young Family Escape Package which consisted of:
- Free three hours of daily babysitting service a day
- Free meals for children up to 5 years old
- Complimentary “Fill-Your-Bag” kids' laundry bag for children up to 12
- Buffet or In-Room Dining breakfast for the family (maximum of four children up to 12 years old, travelling with two adults)
- A welcome amenity for our youngest guests
- Round-trip transfers between the airport and the Resort in a luxury van with child seat or booster
- 20% savings on Spa treatments before 3:00 pm
There were 2 pools 1 at the top of the resort and 1 nearest the beach at the bottom of the resort.
Kids club
They had a kids club open 9-5pm - free for children from 4 years old. It's small but the staff are lovely and they speak English well. We had an English babysitter called Lindsay who looked after our littlest one but ended up looking out for both of them at the kids club for 3 hours a day or in the evening so we could have a relaxed meal out. She was lovely and both kids adored her. Our eldest daughter has never been happy to be left at a kid's club before but she was waving goodbye to us before we'd even walked near the door.
They loved their kid's bath robes.
Rooms
The rooms were lovely and spacious and had a washing machine and dryer - which I didn't expect or go near to be honest. But if I had of known I may not have packed so many clothes, then again you don't go on holiday to do washing, do you? And we got the kids laundry done for free anyway.
You get a little kitchen area with a sink, fridge, microwave and kettle - perfect for travelling with babies. The rooms had a separate front room and balcony, so we could relax whilst the kids slept.
They cleaned the rooms twice a day (if we weren't in the room) to a very high standard.
Pool time fun.
Weather
The weather was hot but manageable except the last couple of days, when it was high 30's at 9am. I would suggest June, July, August is too hot. May is doable.
Food
The food was delicious but the major drawback is it was VERY expensive. You could make a lot of savings if you walked 10 mins outside of the resort to eat.
The breakfast was included in the room rate and was a buffet or you could order in you room. The major issue I had was that I couldn't get bacon. I really like bacon and beef bacon or lamb sausages just wasn't cutting it for my taste buds. But I guess I have to accept that it's a predominantly Muslim country so two weeks of no pork is a bug I had to bear graciously.
The kids loved making the flat bread for our dinner.
Staff
The staff were really lovely, most knew our names and were exceptionally good with the kids. We made a lot of demands like getting milk for the baby, giving us anti-mosquito products, and calling the club car to take us to our room from the beach which was a 10 min walk at most. They would always accommodate us without question.
A quick cuddle before dinner
Entertainment
Last year we went away to Turkey - Hillside Beach Club see my review here. And it was all about the entertainment. On this holiday there wasn't so much in way of entertainment, they had a kid's cinema and picnic a couple of times a week and a couple of other things but the focus wasn't on the evening's entertainment, which I have to say I preferred much more. By the evening the kids were exhausted having been in kids club, the pool and/or the beach all day that by bed time they were ready to sleep. We didn't have as many issues with bad behaviour which I'm convinced is because they had a good night's sleep. However maybe Hillside would be more suitable to older kids.
There were lots of toys to play with on the beach. The sea was crystal clear perfect for snorkelling but you could see lots of colour fish juts from the jetty.
We spent two weeks here and had the most wonderful time, the total bill was roughly the same as our holiday last year at Hillside. We didn't venture outside the hotel at all, because we didn't want to. We were there around the time of the elections so we were a little apprehensive to leave the safety of the Four Seasons with young children, although many people told us Sharm El Sheikh was completely fine.
Us.
I would go back again although we have never gone back to the same holiday resort before. There's far too many places in the world to visit in my opinion.
Where are you going on holiday this year, I'd love to hear?
Nat x
Note: This is my honest opinion, I don't know if you can still get the same package, and I don't know if everything I've said is accurate, but it's to the best of my knowledge.

It sounds like an amazing break. Having a good babysitter and kids clubs would be a wonderful bonus for us.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to Egypt, I have to admit that the troubles out me off. Even at 9 and 8 my boys are shattered on a night and we prefer quiet nights in.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely break. We're off to Disney World this year.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful holiday. Fabulous pictures x
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a lovely relaxing time. For me, I wouldn't want to go somewhere you didn't feel you could leave the resort as I like to potter round the local towns and markets
