Elemis Day Spa – A Little Slice of Heaven

I think I should start of by saying that I love spa treatments.  Not just a little bit, but a lot.  I love nothing more than dosing off on a soft bed whilst a pair of firm experienced hands kneel away at your knots. Or simply sticking my pigs trotters in a warm bubbly bath and having them painted a pretty colour.  I have had plenty of treatments in my time, which makes me perfectly placed to write a review of Elemis Day Spa. (Not that I'm hotfooting it down to the spa every week - I wish!)

Hidden away in the hustle of bustle of Lancashire Court in Mayfair, down a packed alley full of bars and restaurants you will find the Elemis Day Spa – a little piece of heaven.  Although small and lacking the traditional facilities such as the usual steam room, sauna etc., it is perfectly formed and the quality of the treatments by far make up for the lack of fluffy bathrobes and slippers.

On arrival you are treated to a refreshing fruit smoothie – much needed after battling the throngs of tourists on Bond Street.  On this particular visit I was going all out – the absolute mother-to-be experience, consisting of a full-body massage followed by a bespoke facial, all tailored to suit the sensitive needs of a pregnant lady.

In the perfectly lit treatment room filled with soft lighting and a gorgeous soothing scent, you are given the usual consultation where you discuss any specific needs or problems.   Then the best bit, you are lowered down onto the world’s most comfortable beanbag to begin your massage.  Towels and pillows are used to ensure you and your bump are fully supported and you are completely at ease.  The therapist welcomes you with a gentle wash of your feet before moving onto each side to work on your back and legs, as with most pregnancy massages, you’re of course unable to lie on your tummy.  This is followed by a heavenly massage of your feet and shoulders.  The second and sadly the last leg of the treatment – the facial – includes a massage of your arms and hands and of course various stages of cleansing, moisturizing and masks. Finally the piece d’ resistance, the head massage. A-MAZ-ING.

(Sadly this isn't me!)

Now I can’t say exactly what makes one therapist good at massage and the other not so hot, but I can sincerely say that all the massages I have received at Elemis have been consistently great and I can be quite the fuss pot. Also, there is nothing worse than closing your eyes at the beginning of a treatment all ready to drift off into a state of spa bliss, when some chatty Cathy i.e. your therapist, starts making small talk.  Thankfully, there is none of this!  Instead my therapist was attentive, knowledgeable and intent on making sure I had the most relaxed experience possible.

I won’t pretend the treatments are cheap, some saving up is definitely required, but I can say they are definitely worth it.  During my two months of morning sickness hell I went for a massage at Elemis (they can also treat you in your first trimester), and amazingly it was the only time I didn’t feel like I wanted to stick my head down the loo.  And I would have paid anything for this.

Do you have a favourite spa and/or treatment?  Please do comment and let me know, I would love to check it out.
