On Thursday it was my birthday. Yep I'm getting old, I'm 34 but actually I'm not really that bothered anymore. When I turned 30 I had a bit of an issue with moving out of my 20's. But I still don't feel like a proper adult really, I feel like I'm pretending to be a responsible human being. I'm anxiously waiting for the day when I feel like a proper grown up. Although I will say that one of the up sides of getting older is that I feel like my style has evolved and I feel happier now than I ever have ever felt - knowing what suits me and what my actual style is. I'm no longer so interested in current trends (of course I pay attention) but I instantly know if that trend is not for me, and I won't try to conform to the latest craze no matter how much I want to if it doesn't suit me.
Saturday night's outfit.
The jean jacket is from H&M, t-shirt is Asos, Skirt is Asos, Shoes are old but you can find similar here, bag is from Sun Jellies.
(Apologies the Asos site is down at the min)
This weekend has been so busy - Friday and Saturday I attended a blogging conference called Britmums Live for the first time, which was really valuable especially because I met people I often converse with on social media but have never actually met until this week (and might not have actually believed were real!). So it was really nice to put names to faces and also a bit weird too, because sometimes you feel like you know someone, when actually you don't? Because you've seen their picture and you've read what they wrote in a blog post doesn't necessarily mean that you know them. Anyway it is all a little bit odd meeting people who I have an online relationship with, meeting them in person it's difficult to know how to greet them. Everyone knows that awkward moment when you don't know whether to kiss, or hug, or shake hands. I feel like sometimes I was a little bit over friendly by hugging them, whilst they were thinking who the feck is this chick!
But I did meet some people who I instantly clicked with, like we'd known each other for years and who I attached myself to for the rest of the conference. They were the lovely Ruth from Rock n Roller Baby and Alice from An Essex Wife who I've met before, Katy from Modern Mummy, Bonnie from Mama's VIB, Carolynne from Mummy Endevours, and Cass from Little Likely Lads. So it was nice find like-minded bloggers, as I was anxious about going on my own and 'networking' (absolutely detest that word). Before I'd met them the 1st hour was... lets just say a little tough!
Also got to meet the lovely Jenny from Kyna Boutique who received a rather sweaty bear hug.

Some of the gang in the pub on Friday night.
After the conference ended I went to Dalston and met with some friends to celebrate my birthday.
My friend Kelly has great style and I adored her outfit this weekend, especially the detail on the back. The bralet was from Topshop, and the top is from Cop Copine a shop in Islington Upper Street.
Jeans are from Vero Moda.
After a few drinks al fresco we went to a Rib place called Dukes in N1. OMFG I effing love ribs. But these ribs were the best I've ever tasted (and I've tasted a lot) they were succulent and oh so tasty, not smothered in sauce like most places trying to disguise the fact that actually the meat is of really poor quality. These ribs had been smoked over hickory and apple-cherry wood to give you that sweet smokey taste. And it wasn't outrageously expensive like too many so called 'cool' places in London.
The decor is rustic without feeling too scummy. Our waiter was very attentive and personable. I did kind of wonder whether there was the need for a bouncer on the door as we entered, but hey we're in East London and anyway he was pleasant enough so it didn't really matter.
Dukes brew their own beer in house which is nice, but not really for me. Wine is more my tipple as otherwise I'd walk out of there looking six months pregnant if I'd drunk beer.
I would highly recommend going there if like me you love meat and in particular ribs. In the photo it doesn't look like there is a lot of food but the ribs are big and meaty and the sides we shared were also very tasty indeed. The mac n cheese (marconi cheese in english) was a bit too nice! The sliders (pulled pork) were nice but nothing special. Stick with the ribs that come with a side of coleslaw and you will be very happy indeed.
Where have you been recently that has impressed you? Would love to hear about places you love to go, where ever that is in the world.
Have you recently discovered your style? Or are you still clueless about what suits you best?

Happy Birthday Nat, looks like you had a really busy weekend. I would have loved to go to Brit mums, as I'd really like to meet some other mummy bloggers but it was our sons third birthday the same weekend. Maybe next year Xx
ReplyDeletePs I love your style, feminine and cool!
Thanks Adrienne, hope your son had a wonderful time too. Shame you weren't there would have loved to meet you.
DeleteHappy Birthday!!! 34 is young!!! I'm 40+ now....I absolutely love your skirt!!! A place that recently (and always) has impressed me is Stockholm! Was there a few weeks ago! And the question about finding style..tricky..I have a style I would like in my head, but I can't really wear it fully due to still being in post-pregnancy shape, so I am doing a compromise..something in between..;) Have a great day! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, oh I've never been to Stockholm, would love to one day. You look great Camilla. x
DeleteHappy Belated Birthday Nat! It was great to meet you even if super-briefly at BritMums, will be lovely to stay in touch. As for style, you look very much "bien dans ta peau" as the French say - apart from meaning "good in your own skin", it really means you look like someone who is settled in to who they are, and I think your style always reflects that. It's good that it's an evolving thing, this is what makes style something creative and exciting! xx
