A few weeks ago, six weeks after his 3rd birthday, little Harry's life was turned upside down. After being poorly for about 10 days with a typical kiddies bug, he became unusually pale, tired and had some pronounced bruising. His family took him to A&E where after some blood tests, they were taken into a side room and given the devastating news that he had leukaemia. This was even more tragic as his mum had only been back at work for two days, after being off work for 13 months as she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer herself, the same time last year.
He was admitted immediately and, the following day, transferred to The Royal Marsden where he was put on a drip, given numerous blood transfusions, platelet transfusions and loads of IV antibiotics all with the aim of getting him well enough to start his treatment, an operation to take some bone marrow samples and administer a lumber puncture and intrathecal chemo (chemo injected directly into the CNS fluid in order to prevent the leukaemia transmitting to his brain).
The tests on his bone marrow showed that Harry has a type of leukaemia called ALL. The good news is that this is the most treatable form of the disease. There is a +80% survival rate and, at this point, all the indicators for Harry are positive. The treatment is pretty hardcore, he'll be on a mix of 4 different chemo drugs for the next six or so months. Oral, IV, intrathecal and the remainder injected into his muscle. Then his treatment will continue at a lesser pace for another two and a half years.
As you can imagine, this has been both devastating and life changing for his immediate, and extended family. For some good to come from this, they have decided to do some fund raising, with the help of friends and family, over the course of his treatment and have set themselves a goal of raising £10k for The Royal Marsden.
To kick start the fundraising, Harry's sister and cousin, both aged just 5, with the help of some friends, will be taking part in the Bushy Park Juniors 2km Run on 4th May.

P.S. Also please RT, share, like, comment etc etc you know the drill. x
Oh gosh poor Harry. Like you said cancer treatment is so hardcore. Have you heard about the Saatchi Bill? Maurice Saatchi is challenging the almost medieval way that life threatening illness it dealt with. He wants innovation to be the key in leading the way forward. It would be wonderful to have your support getting this through the House of Lords. Love to Harry an his family :)
