Picture Perfect Practise

My objective for this year is to get better at taking photos, I have asked for a camera for my next birthday. I don't want it to be another flash in the pan, I have been guilty of asking for things and then never using them. So in the meantime I'm practising taking photos with my phone. Trying to be aware of things like the light, the background, and composition.

The camera I'm leaning towards is a Canon 600d or 700d. I want something easily portable, easy to use, that obviously takes great quality pictures. Please let me know if you have other suggestions.

So in the meantime you'll just have to put up with my amateur phone pics.

What I did

I used my iphone 5 and took the photos in the instant setting, it gives the photos a kind of yellowy/ green tinge.

Then I used an app called Instant: The polaroid Instant Camera, on the computer and it turns the photos into polaroid snaps.

The default filter setting is called T600, I think this is the one I prefer best.

I didn't edit the photos in any other way. If you have any suggestions for which apps to use for editing photos for novices I'd be grateful.

We were just trying on some recent purchases, and playing peek-a-boo.

The socks are her big sister's, but as soon as she saw them she wanted to try them on.

Apologies if I haven't used the correct lingo, but as I say I'm completely clueless in this photography business.

Let me know what you think. Any hints, tips or tricks gratefully appreciated.

Nat x

  2. She is adorable, and those are lovely photos. I use a variety of photo editing apps including Pic Stitch (good for collages and simple filter) and Pic Art (good for filters and overlaying text) and then on the PC I use Pic Monkey (fantastic selection of filters, overlays, collages and text!). I also occasionally use A beautiful mess and Rhona Designs (both iPhone apps). I think the best thing is just to play around and enjoy it :) #BlogClub

  3. so very cute! :-)

I need to get better at taking photos too, but can't justify a new camera so will have to just get better while using my iphone. I'm currently taking loads of snaps & then seeing which ones work better after cropping & very basic editing (I use Picasa)

  5. I'm also in need of a photography lesson or 10! Like Sara, I also use Pic Monkey which not only is a fab tool for editing photos, it's also good for creating simple headers or badges #blogclub

  6. I am a flash in the pan buyer, I bought a new camera in January convinced I would improve my photography skills and just tend to stick with my iPhone as I really like the quality of the photos. Naughty me!
